What are Dental Veneers?

In general, a veneer is a thin layer of material that is placed on the outside of something to give it a different (often better) look. With dental veneers, a shell made of high-grade porcelain is shaped and cemented to the front of a tooth to enhance its appearance in a multitude of ways.

The Process of Getting Veneers

  • Step 1-Consultation: You’ll sit down with your cosmetic dentist, discuss your goals, and figure out if veneers offer the best way to help you achieve them.
  • Step 2-Preparation: If you decide to proceed with veneers, your dentist will remove a small amount of enamel from the teeth that will be covered (so the shells don’t stick out and look bulky). A digital impression will then be taken of your teeth.
  • Step 3-Temporaries: We’ll send the impression to our dental lab to fabricate your custom-designed veneers, and in the meantime, you’ll be fitted with temporaries so you can “test drive” your new smile.
  • Step 4-New Smile: A week or so later, you’ll return to our office so we can remove your temporaries and attach your final veneers.

The Benefits of Veneers

The biggest benefit of veneers is that they enable patients to mask/fix a wide variety of dental flaws and imperfections with a single method, which saves time and leads to a cohesive, attractive result.

On top of this, having a pristine white smile can be a tremendous boost to one’s confidence, plus the porcelain itself actually strengthens teeth and is stain-resistant, meaning the patient will enjoy both aesthetic and functional benefits for many years to come.

Understanding the Cost of Veneers

The veneers treatment is quite modular, meaning that some patients only need one to get the results they want, while others might need up to six. Because of this, the cost can vary quite a bit from person to person, but we’ll cover all of these details before you begin the process so you know what to expect and have an idea of your financial commitment.

Because veneers are typically not covered by dental insurance (as it’s an elective procedure), we’re happy to offer low-to-no-interest financing through CareCredit, which makes it easy for patients to space out their costs in a way that fits comfortably into their budgets.
